Behind the Drum.

We’re proud to be military.
We march abreast in ranks of three
Each man is where he’s meant to be.
Behind the drum.

We demonstrate it can be done
 for many men to move as one.
Their steps in perfect unison
Behind the drum.

Though when we’re on the battlefield
 and orders are we must not yield.
The general’s place is well concealed
Behind the drum.

The rank and file must face the foe
  from raw recruit to N.C.O.
Though to a man they’d rather go.
Behind the drum.

But sadly this can never be.
It has been so through history
They aren’t allowed to seek safety
Behind the drum.

Do not be fooled by pageantry.
Refuse to join the infantry
It’s not as it appears to be.
Behind the drum.
